First time climbing outdoors, Borrowdale Valley. Not the best of weather for climbing, but mostly dry, we only had one shower on route (pitch 3 of 6) and the best (final) pitch almost entirely dry by the time we got there. See pictures below. Borrowdale Valley, Lake District.
Edelrid Ultra-BrightI happened to have a spare climbing helmet, which I had been using for caving for some time, but my head torch kept falling off it.
It is important to note that drilling holes in a helmet can invalidate the manufacturer's warranty and any EN, CE or UIAA ratings. Therefore modified helmets should not be used as PPE! Nevertheless it looks good.
Mountaineering in the Langdales
We started with a roped scramble, on Tarn Crags, (left). The rock here very rough as not many people climb on it and as usuall we had the crag to our selves. The summit of Tarn Crags leads perfectly onto Stickle Tarn, and Pavy arc (right).
The close up image (below left) shows us on the belay ledge, after the first pitch. The following pitch takes a traverse across the top of the slab, with some pretty airy positions, for a mod. It's that that makes it one of my favourites!
